Project Objectives:
  • Design and manufacture a 10 m diameter scaled guideway that incorporates the JPods bogie.
  • Adapt a bogey that will be supplied by Jpods (Bill James) to operate on the track
  • Guideway design to follow on from design started by Jacques Ango (Superway Intern Summer 2019)
  • Guideway must support the weight of the bogie and moving components

Project Scope:

  • Design, fabrication, and demonstration of the bogie and track integration at near full scale

Deliverables:

  • Scaled functional guideway
  • Integration of a moving bogie (to be supplies by JPods) 
  • Demonstrate continuous, controlled movement of bogie around track 

Required Facilities and Funding:


  • Funding by Spartan Superway Team and A.S. 
  • Machine Shop

Entry #3 - (09/11/2019)

Our team was working on the full-scale project to figure out to start a new design or follow up the current design from last year group. Dr. Furman then assigned our group to a new project (10m track) as our new full-scale project. we met with Bill James and Jacques Ango to receive data and information of bogie and its 10m track. Bill James has been working with the bogie and its track, and he explained how the bogie has to be attached to the track. Jacques Ango has been designing the track for bogie, and he shared with us on how to design our 10m track that will meet the requirements.

Today we had the ZOOM meeting with professor Furman, Mr. Ron and everyone in our class. During the class time, Dr. Furman mentioned that we can not have any hardware work done inside or outside the campus due to COVID-19. The plan for our project changed from fabricating the 11 Meter Track to study and research the environmental effect of our project. We still work and finish our 3D modeling, but unfortunately, we won't be able to fabricate what we are modeling. Our team is working towards the new goal that is set up for this project in this semester.

Entry #2

          Originally, we were going to be working on a Full scale switching mechanism as worked on by a group last year. We went through the old project extensively. After evaluating the project, we went through the bundles of wire and did our best to track down what was going on. We instituted the help of a multi-meter, and from there we were able to track down live/dead wires. After about an hour of tracking things down and flipping switches we were unable to get get power to the bogie.           Furthermore, in courtroom 2, there lies a full scale track piece. The backstory goes, there used to be a massive near full scale track, but Superway lost the building space, and so pieces of the track were cut down and spread throughout the building. The track piece is very dilapidated will the steel structures showing lots of surface rust. To our knowledge the previous group was never able to get their project working.
